The Bluebird Trail
A single track trail winds over rolling terrain for 6 km across the Dewdrop Range from the area near Battle Bluff west to the trails going up the Escarpment. The Bluebird Trail was so named because the Kamloops Outdoor Club installed a series of bluebird birdhouses along a faint track south of the Frederick Road. Mountain bikers and hikers have since used and extended the trail east and west. On a fall day we started at Battle Bluff and then hiked along the Bluebird Trail out-and-back for a 12 km hike. Most of the route is a single track through grasslands and a bit of open forest.
A fence crossing has a cattle guard and there is an old range fence still partly standing across the slope.
The trail crosses a Wildlife Management Area (BC Parks) across easy terrain below the Red Plateau escarpment. The trail passes three trailheads that go steeply up – The Forgotten Trail, Dead Coyote, and the Three Amigos Trail (links below). A few images are shared here from our hike along the trail. The Bluebird Trail can be combined with other trails, or hikers can go off-trail to explore the hills of the Dewdrop Range.

I was excited to learn about the new bluebird trail in Kamloops! As a bird watcher and nature lover, I appreciate the work your organization does to create habitats and raise awareness about local wildlife. The mountain bluebird is such a beautiful sight with its bright blue plumage. I hope to spot some on my next hike in the area. Thank you for all you do for the environment and community!
The hike is especially nice in spring when the bluebirds are active. Cheers….
