Frederick Bluffs in the Spring
Every year we hike in the rocky hills of the Dewdrop Range. With open slopes and south-facing benchlands, it clears of snow and mud early. the Frederick Bluffs area has good road access, but there are no trails. Over years of exploration we have developed some loop routes, but we vary them each year. On this early April day, the skies were cloudy but we had mild temperatures for morning hike. We climbed into the hills and wound our way west to the highest point overlooking the hamlet of Frederick and Kamloops Lake. To the north, the hills of the Dewdrop Range stood below the imposing cliffs of the Red Plateau Escarpment.
From the hilltop above Frederick we would our way east, following a series of bluffs, then out to Bighorn Bluff, a prominent hilltop overlooking the lake. Battle Bluff stood above the lake 4 km to the east.
We hiked a 5km rugged route through the hills. A few birds, some deer, and the expected ticks were also spotted along the route. This is a wild and quiet area, one worth returning to hike each year. A few images from the hike are shared here. Click an image for a lightbox view and a caption.
