Shelley Lake Loop
The route down to Shelley Lake and beyond is a well-established trail. The route to the trailhead is the same as for the Jolly-Tsintsunko Lake trail. Follow the Jamieson Creek FSR until the 28km mark and turn onto the Shelley Lake – Beaverhut Road. Follow this road until the 8km marker. We spotted a small road to our right and followed it, parking at the trailhead. We then hiked downhill to Shelley Lake. The trail continues around the north shore of Shelley Lake passing old cabins on the west side and completes a full circuit by climbing back up to the road near the 11km mark. This easy circuit route is not a long hike, but there is an option to go much further. Two junctions are seen on this circuit, both heading west past small lakes on the way to Hiakwah Lake and beyond to the Deadman Creek Road. This is called the Deadman’s Walk. This could be done as an out and back route or as a two car system, one of many explorations for the future. There is even a side route over to the Windy Lake Road not far from the Skoatl Trail (we spotted the junction on our last trip, an opportunity for a mountain bike circuit between hikes.
