Park Hill Trails
The Park Hill Trails are in the forested area on a hill overlooking Shuswap Lake, west of Canoe. The approach is either from the Park Hill Road in Salmon Arm or Canoe Beach Road There are trailheads are at various points, but many hikers start at the Canoe Beach parking lot and hike up the hill. There are about 10km of forested trails divided into two sections by Park Hill Road. Some of the east half of the trail network is still under construction by the Shuswap Trails, but we included sections of trails on both sides to make a larger loop.
All of the trails are in the forest with a small number of more open spots on the east side. Much of the hillside is in a cedar-hemlock forest but there are also deciduous treed areas near wet areas.
On the east side are some cleared areas from an old landfill and a pumphouse access. The Canoe Ball Fields are right below the trails on the edge of Canoe.
We enjoyed the Outer Loop Trail on the west side and stopped at a couple of viewpoints that look toward Sunnybrae on the other side of the lake.
Hikers can pick whichever trails they want to create their own loop of 1 to 1.5 hours on moderate trails.
When we hiked the trails in May there were many wildflowers in bloom (click the link below). Our thanks to the Shuswap Trails Alliance, the community of Canoe, and the volunteer committees who have developed the Park Hills Trails.
