Owl Triangle Winter Hike
On a day near the end of December day I hiked single tracks in the Owl Triangle, a benchland cut by gullies and ringed by silt cliffs to the west of Valleyview Nature Park. The area is located between Highland Drive and Owl Road and is seldom hiked. We can access the trails and routes from Valleyview Arena or from higher up Highland Drive. On this day, I walked down from the Arena to a single track trail which winds up to the top of the bench overlooking Valleyview.
There are very few trees on the bench, except for these few at the north end.
Silt cliffs overlook all of the gullies. The whole area was once under a glacial lake which left silts and clay materials which have become eroded over time.
When I hike this area I follow single tracks out and back to the edge of the drop-offs. This large hoodoo can be spotted overlooking Valleyview Drive/
The low winter sun shone over the area on this two hour hike.
There are several gullies and more silt cliffs to see on the hike.
Most of the snow had disappeared, but there was some in sheltered spots and a bit of mud near those. My boots got muddy, but I stayed dry. This was another fine day of winter hiking.
