Lyons Lake Revisited
We hiked into Lyons Lake over the winter and provided information on the route and its merits (link). We returned today by another route, climbing over the hills to the northeast. The main route in is easy; the hills are all off-trail and challenging. From the top of a hill to the south, we could see Lyons Lake.
With a lot of winding down bluffs and around deadfall, we found the Lyons Lake track. The gentle double track winds in a gully from the Heffley Dump Road to the west side of the lake. The lake was now ice-free. Bufflehead ducks in mating pairs swam and dove on the green lake surface. A pair of mating eagles (see the photos) watched from snags above. Buttercups, wild onions, and yellow bells stood up in the dry grasses above the lakeshore. Cattle grazed north and east.
