Little Douglas Lake Trail
Little Douglas Lake lies in a cirque between Zum Peak, Zoa Peak, and Zopkios Ridge in the Coquihalla Summit area. The 3 km return trail starts at the Zum Recreation Site on the Upper Coldwater Road. Take the Coquihalla Lakes/Britton Creek exit, go over the highway on the overpass and follow the paved road as it follows the Coldwater River upstream. After passing through the service yard the road turns to gravel. The road is okay for most vehicles, although lower clearance cars will have to go slowly. At about 7.5 km, look for the sign and parking for the Zum Rec Site. The trail enters the forest and bears southwest.
It is 1.5 km to the shores of Little Douglas Lake on a pleasant trail.
There are 3 tent pads, bear-proof storage, and an outhouse at a small campsite on the lake. The shoreline is a scenic spot to camp or just to enjoy lunch.
On a previous trip to Little Douglas Lake, we scrambled up to the shoulder of Zum Peak, a difficult route and not recommended. On this day, we did a return hike to Falls Lake, then drove into Zum Rec Site for a 3 km return hike to Little Douglas Lake, a fine day in the Cascade Mountains.
