Lightning Lake Loop
Some of the hiking trails of Manning Provincial Park make good snowshoe routes in winter. We stayed at the Lodge and then drove up to the Day Use area at Lightning Lake for a snowshoe loop of Lightning Lake on a sunny day in January.
Snowshoe and cross country ski tracks followed the shoreline and trails southwest along he Lightning Lake chain.
We could spot the summit of Frosty Mountain (2409m) from one point near the end of Lightning Lake.
We crossed the end of the lake at the junction. The trail continues to Flash and Strike Lakes (7 km longer). In summer, we can also hike out to Thunder Lake (another 6 km).
We could spot Lone Mountain above Thunder Lake in the distance.
We returned down the trail on the south side of Lightning Lake back to the east end of the lake where we started, a 7.7 km moderate hike/snowshoe, perfect for a half day in Manning Park.
