Leighton Lake Trail
On a clear September day I drove to Tunkwa Lake Provincial Park. I paddled Leighton Lake (3.4 km) from the Leighton Campground then hiked a signed trail around the lake, out to the Bluff Hill lookout, back through Tunkwa Campground, and then back to the start, a 6.5 km trail hike.
An early start provided calm conditions on the lakes. There were a few fishermen on the lake and a number of RVs in both campgrounds. Ducks were abundant on the lakes.
The trail was a good dirt single track through the grasslands. Burned forest flanked the southern end of the Tunkwa grasslands.
The Leighton Lake Trail is a recommended outing, especially for a sunny fall day. A few images are provided here. Click an image for a lightbox view and a caption.
