Hiking to Skoatl Point — 6 Comments

  1. It is so sad to see this area after it burned . I climed the Basalt colums of Skoatle point about 20 + years ago when the forest was pristine. The top looks like a tiled terrazzo floor because you are walking on top of the octagonal collums It is very interesting to say the least. At that time there was a cairn in top with a visitor book and a bottle whisky for the brave to take a sip of. The fly in tourist camp on Dagger lake was fully visible . Did it burn ?? We counted 17 lakes from the top. I won’t go back because I would hate to see it like this .

    • Thanks for your interest. It looks like the Dagger Lake Camp survived the burn. Its on a bit of a point so it may have been protected by the lake on three sides.

  2. Hi Doug. The one and only time I hiked up Skoatl point was with you, something like 12 years ago. I remember the area well. So sad to see the fire damage.
