Heffley East Trails
There are some informal user-made single track trails through the forest off the Lake Bay Road and the Armour Creek FSR on the East Side of Heffley Lake. We linked up several to hike a 5.5 km figure-eight route, but we spotted more trails that will require further exploration.
There were no viewpoints and most of the routes wound through mixed forests, but we also used the backroads to link up the trails.
There are no signs and some of the trails are hard to spot, but it is still fun to explore new routes. We plan to return to explore farther on another day, perhaps on snowshoes next time.
A perturbed reader complained about a public post on these trails. He was probably a local who wanted to keep the trails just for a few, but he was less than polite about it. As it turns out, I had read posts about it on Facebook three times before going there, so I was not the first to share info on the trails. NIMBY attitudes are common, but Canadians have freedom of speech, and I don’t let negative statements censor my posts. Nonetheless, I will not be adding more posts on these trails, since there are many more places to hike.
