Buse Hill Hike
The Buse Hill Trail is a track that starts on the Robbins Range Road and climbs to the top of the bluffs in Buse Lake Protected Area (BC Parks). The return hike, depending on the route chosen is about 4 km. There is a steep climb for the first part, but the trail becomes more moderate higher up. There are several route choices on the way up, near the top, and on the way back down. On a day in the first half of June we hiked a loop route on Buse Hill.
From the trailhead (N50 35.985 W120 02.197) a double track climbs up the hill with grassland slopes on both sides.
We passed a muddy lake/pond on the way up. Near the top we start to see views of the cliffs overlooking Barnhartvale. Buse Lake lies far below, right on Barnhartvale Road.
Buse Hill is a line of cliffs facing north, with a series of viewpoints. To the west is the Buse Pillar. We hiked an informal trail over the top of the hill above the pillar.
Our route was a loop using a combination of tracks. The loop hike could be done in 1.5 hours, but we took our time and enjoyed the views, the wildflowers, and the quiet forests and grasslands. A few images are shared here. Click an image for a lightbox view and a caption.
