Batchelor Ridge Ramble
On a sunny and cool day near the end of winter we hiked from the parking area by the entrance to Lac du Bois Grasslands Protected Area and hiked on steep tracks up and over a series of hills to viewpoints. The track was snowy and there was spots of ice, dirt, or mud.
Double tracks climb up the hills. Some of the sections are steep.
We hiked over the first hill, dropped down a bit to the pipeline, then started a longer, steeper climb.
From the upper part of the Batchelor Range we had views across the Grasslands to Mt. Mara and Mt. Wheeler.
At the end of our climb we had 360 degree views, one of them north up the North Thompson River Valley. Dunn Peak stood above all the hills due north.
On the way back we looped out for a longer, but less steep route back to the start, a 6.7 km hike.
