There are a few routes that allow us to hike the hills above Kamloops Lake.    From Abbey Road a road follows the powerline and gas line, then branches several times.    Most of the area to the west has some private land and there are some areas of grazing lease to the northwest too, but the hills on the east side can be hiked, best suited to shoulder seasons.    In all cases, respect fences, go quietly, and Leave no Trace from your hike.   Each time I hike in these hills, I take a new route, following tracks, then going off-trail to explore the hills.

From the main track I took a side track up into the forested hills.   All was quiet on this backcountry route.
I struck off up a hill and found game trails to follow, then another single track (probably a motorcycle) over the top of the hill and beyond.

I angled out for various views on this cloudy day.   The view to Greenstone Mountain featured the sun peeking through the grey clouds.

On the edge of cliffs, wide-shaped trees overlook the rocky hills and grassland slopes below.

I hiked a loop route through the hills, then returned to retrace my route back on the double track, a 6 km route on a cool late fall day.  I s[potted another hill to explore which will be goal for the next day of hiking in this area.
