Queen’s Garden
The most hiked trail below the rim of Bryce Canyon is the Queen’s Garden Trail, and for good reason. The trail starts at Sunrise Point and then drops 300 feet to gullies and ridges within the maze of hoodoos. Some of the route is cut through tunnels under the ridges, some sections wind down forested gullies, and new features are found around every corner.
The Queen’s Garden trail is not a loop, so hikers usually follow the Navaho Trail back up to the rim, making a hike of 2.5miles. There are so many things to see and so many potential photos to take, that it seems longer.
The route up goes through Wall Street, a tunnel-like corridor between ridges. This was a popular route for the other hikers, much like going through a slot canyon. There are several route options along the way, leading to views of named features – Thor’s Hammer, Boat Mesa, the Sinking Ship, the Peekaboo Loop, the Aquarius Plateau, the Twin Bridges, and more, all worthy of side route hikes. We enjoyed every part of this trail.
There is so much to see that the hike becomes a walk and we linger to take in everything, but we would have to return many times to see it all. If you have a sense of wonder, come to the Queen’s Garden Complex.
