Six Mile Hill Hike
On a rainy May morning I drove up to Pat Lake from the Tobiano area on the rough gravel road and parked near the lakeshore. I paddled around Pat Lake twice, them secured the boat. I went north up through the Six Mile Hills to the highest point. There are no trails up into the hills so I chose to take an eclectic approach, choosing each section of the route along the way, choosing either an easier route or an interesting one, stopping to look at flowering plants, old snags, birds, and landforms along the way.
At the top of Six Mile Hill, I continued past to a viewpoint overlooking the Thompson River/Kamloops Lake Valley, with Kamloops in the distance.
I hiked over the upper hills to the western end too for views over the Six Mile Hills and Savona in the distance. I rarely hiked in straight line, going over rocks, logs, and around obstacles, picking a route that seemed interesting, through dells, down ridges, across grassland slopes, all the time dropping back to the lakes area below. The Six Mile Hills are a favorite area 4.4 out of 5.0 stars to hike, a route I take on every spring.
