Bush Lake Snowshoe (Stomp)
On a mild February day I snowshoed the Bush Lake Trails off the west side of the Lac le Jeune Road. I followed stomped-in tracks on known routes through the forest, around Bush Lake, around the wooded hill overlooking the area, then back through the drainage in a 5.6 km loop, taking about 2 hours.
There are some old and tall douglas fir trees in the area, standing above the younger aspens, pines, and spruce trees.
Bush Lake is a marshy basin between the Coquihalla Highway and the Lac le Jeune Road. The snowshoe track rounded the west side. Reeds and rushes stand above the snow in the marsh area. On the edges of the wet area were red-osier dogwoods and willows.
A double track winds around the forested hill, making a good route for snowshoers, fat-tire bikes, and cross country skiers.
The sun broke through the cloud in the last half hour. Warmer weather was coming in from the southwest.
This route has been done a few times and remains a favourite, to be done again next winter.
