Louis Ridge
This is an unnamed ridge that rises above Paul Lake, west of Gibraltar Rock. There is no trail and it requires a steep climb through forest and grass slopes following the prominent ridgeline which runs east-west. From the campground at Paul Lake, take the Bluff Trail as it heads west to Gibraltar Rock. Just before the trail turns south to climb to the top of the lookout, turn north instead, bushwhacking upwards, then follow the spine of the ridge as it climbs west to the highest point. A few remnants of game trails can be followed, but for the most part, this is an off-trail route. At the top, the ridge comes to a flat area and it is hard to know where to go. The best lookout is at the southwest corner so traverse across the forested plateau to an open spot overlooking Paul Lake. Harper Mountain and Rockface Mountain lie south of Paul Lake.
This is an obscure high spot with no trail. A passion for exploration of remote spots is required to tackle this route.
2023 Note – There is now a trail up the ridge. There is another article – Above Gibraltar Rock.
