Winter Beaches: Overlander Confluence
When winter snows blanket the hills, it is nice to have some routes that can still be accessed for shorter walks/hikes (2 – 8 km) and the beaches of our two rivers offer flat expanses of sand and silt to explore. Overlander Beach disappears in May, but in winter when the rivers are lower, we can do a 3 km loop.
Walk out from Overlander Park (by the tennis courts) on Kitchener Crescent down to the beach and go out to the confluence. Riverside Park is across the confluence. Mt. Paul lies east.
Follow the sand north for views up the North Thompson River.
Loop back close to the high water mark near the cottonwoods and head under Overlander Bridge for a view west, past the old bridge pylons.
In spring the confluence of the two rivers can only be accessed by boat so take the time to walk out and look out from this center point of the three valleys of Kamloops.
